I visited Omaha, Nebraska with Mike in September 2022 for my cousin’s wedding. While we spent about a day doing wedding-related activities, we also spent a day exploring the city. These are my recommendations for things to do in the area.

Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge

We started our morning with a walk to Iowa! Sounds crazy, but Iowa is just on the other side of the Missouri River, which runs through Omaha. The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is close to downtown and easy to access. We parked at the National Park Service parking lot and wandered through the Visitor Center before beginning our walk. We walked around on the trail on the Nebraska side and then crossed the bridge into Iowa. It was a gorgeous day and it felt good to stretch our legs.

Walk around Old Market

Next, we drove to Old Market in downtown Omaha. This is a historic neighborhood with cobblestone streets filled with shops and restaurants. It’s a really cute area. We had lunch at Zio’s Pizza followed by dessert at Dolci Ice Cream and Desserts. Everything was delicious.

Fontenelle Forest

Our afternoon was spent at the Fontenelle Forest, which is located about 15 minutes south of downtown. The non-profit nature center has 17 miles of nature trails, a raptor exhibit featuring several birds of prey, a nature center with information about the history of the area, and an adventure park with ziplines and a ropes course. We took our time wandering through the exhibits and then walked along the Riverview Boardwalk Area, a 1.3 mile loop. We enjoyed our visit here.

Blatt Brewery for Dinner & Drinks

The last stop of the day was Blatt Brewery. There are a few locations in the city, but we chose the one next to the baseball stadium. We loved the open-air atmosphere here and the food and beers were great as well!
