Day Trip to Breckenridge: Itinerary for First-Time Visitors
The adorable town of Breckenridge is located in the mountains of Colorado. It’s known for its world-class skiing and snowboarding, but is worth a visit in the summer too!
While Mike and I were visiting our good friends Dustin and Sheena in Colorado Springs in July 2023, the four of us took a day trip to visit Breckenridge. This is a fairly easy day trip about two hours from Colorado Springs or 1.5 hours from Denver. This was my first time in Breckenridge, and I thought this itinerary gave us a good sample of what the town has to offer!
Downstairs at Eric’s for lunch
We started our day with lunch at Downstairs at Eric’s. This restaurant is a sports bar with an arcade and delicious food! I got a Philly Cheesesteak with sweet potato fries and Mike got a ginormous triple-decker burger. They were delicious!

Souvenir shopping
After lunch, we wandered around some of the souvenir shops. There are lots of them to choose from! I got an adorable Christmas ornament at their Christmas shop.
Free gondola
We took the free gondola to the activity area at the top of the mountain in town. There are lots of activities to participate in at the fun park (called Epic Discovery), including a ropes challenge course, zipline, alpine slide, and a roller coaster. We were interested in riding the alpine slide, but it was closed when we got there so we just walked around before heading back down.

Searching for the troll
There is a 15-foot-tall wooden troll located in the woods in Breckenridge. We took the free bus from the town center to the Trollstigen Trail since we weren’t sure what the parking situation would be like. Turns out, there is a large parking lot, and parking wouldn’t have been an issue. After a few minutes of walking on the trail, we came upon the ginormous troll and had to get pictures!

I Scream Gelato
We ended our day with gelato at I Scream Gelato. It was really yummy and the perfect end to a fantastic day!
